To begin with, I would like to post a few disclaimers for anyone that ever happens to read this. (Unlikely)
- I am not a blogger, this is a requirement for my AIS computer course...so do not expect much.
- My professor said that I should discuss a topic I'm passionate about, which to me means whatever floats my boat. In other words, I will most likely be waxing poetically about anything I can think of, once a week.
Now onto to the topic for this week, in honor of school starting back, we'll chat about how I am feeling about the new school year. First of all, let's tackle parking. For those of you Mississippi State University students out there, you know what I mean. The parking on my campus is an absolute train wreck. The thousands of incoming freshmen, with vehicles, are a true burden. I understand the reasoning behind us having two new dorms, but not adding new parking lots is very much grating my nerves. I wish that Mississippi State would do what many universities with a parking problem do...DO NOT LET FRESHMEN HAVE CARS. Simple, right? The freshmen are required to live on campus anyway, other than going to the bars, to "not drink", there is nothing to do in Starkville anyway. Some might say well they have jobs, I answer cool, work on campus. The next parking problem I would like to discuss staff parking. There are numerous parking areas on campus where the staff does not even begin to fill the fifty spaces in the lots. Those spots may be right beside the building where my class is, and the entire parking lots may be empty, but I will definitely get a ticket for parking there. The next parking confusion...parking zones. Last year, I got my parking pass very late when I transferred here. I was rewarded with everyone's worst nightmare, Coliseum Parking. Fall semester 2011 it honestly was not that bad, but then spring semester rolled around. I realized that the sign at the coliseum read "Coliseum OR ANY OTHER VALID PERMIT." Are you kidding me Mississippi State? Seriously, are you kidding me? So, not only can coliseum people park there, literally anyone else can too. When Commuter East Zone, and all of them, are full they can come to the only zone I can park in and take up every available spot. Absolutely asinine. The reason we have zoned parking, is so that if one is forced to park outside of their zone to make it to class, they will get a ticket. Congratulations school, I just paid you thirty dollars for a ticket, one-hundred and thirty dollars for a parking pass, three-thousand dollars for tuition, not too mention books and all the other crap. Congratulations university, you win, this is my blank check book and debit card, enjoy. Last year, due to no available spots I came out of the school year with count em' eleven thirty dollar parking tickets, but I was never once late to class. You really can't have your cake, and eat it too, unless you're a university then you get your cake and the cake of thousands of sad college kids with no where to park.
Stay classy,
Kacey
P.S. I have discovered my own way to beat the system. College will not conquer me.
